Just bringing over some stuff I posted on the old forum...

Sam Slade AKA Robo-Hunter

Basic set-up: Native of Brit Cit.  Initially, an ageing, savvy, cigar-chomping bounty hunter who tracks down (and generally terminates) rogue robots.

Key creators: John Wagner, Alan Grant, Ian Gibson

In brief: Action packed and entertaining spin on a basic private-eye set-up.  First appeared in Prog 76 (1978) with the story of the robot planet, Verdus.  When Sam Slade (that’s S-L-A-Y-E-D to you) is sent to a distant colony world, sabotage and subsequent time dilation effects mean that Sam arrives restored to his mid 20s and the ship’s pilot., Kidd, has been reduced to a talking baby with a very bad attitude.  Sam Slade’s longstanding robotic sidekicks arrived with the Day of the Droids storyline (Prog 152): the not-too-bright Hoagy (Yup) and Spanish robotic cigar Stogie.  Sam also has (or had) a Robometer on his belt, Cutie.

Classic stories:  Verdus (Progs 76-84, 100-112), Day of the Droids (152-174)
Reprints: Robo-Hunter: The Droid Files Vol. 1 and 2 (ISBN-13: 978-1906735210; ISBN-13: 978-1906735432)

Stogie

Stogie & Hoagy

Old Sam, pre-Verdus

Classic Titan reprint cover (my favourite)...

Can't wait. Giot to say I find the colour scheme a bit too bright - Sam was always a grittier world (against which cut the humor and violence) but will totally be buying. Great looking, great price and only a few weeks away! Woot!

Will there be the 'alt.' version on Bamba like Death?

Congrats to Gregory and all behind this.

Those are some early paint test photos, seeing what he and the clothing look like under different lighting. We'll have some much more polished and dynamic photos this weekend. And of course he'll be chomping on Stogie

I looked at a lot of the covers for ideas for the paint scheme, he's either seen in primary colors or drab browns. I love the cover of Prog 263, so the colors are primarily based on that one. We really wanted him to pop and stand out. Some things might change slightly, be a bit more faded, but for the most part this is him.

I'm personally very happy with how he turned out. Getting his face was not an easy task and took a lot of revisions, but I think we really nailed the jaw, the chin, and cheeks. He looks so great in profile view. We recently changed the pants material so that they are a lot tighter too, get him closer to that Ian Gibson silhouette.

No plans for a black & white edition at the moment, but you never know, anything is possible..

Thanks Gregory, lots of love for this over on the 2000ad forums.

I think the blue cap looks more drum majorette than trucker but it's no deal breaker, it's a great figure and only better that it comes with a robostoogie!

Many thanks again.

Does he come with alternate hands? That left one's a little static.

Is the blaster separate or part of a hand sculpt?

Hmmm I have never read any Robo-Hunter, but the figure looks great. I am seriously considering picking it up. Yeah good work to you and your team Gregory. This line has some of the most amazing looking 1/12  scale figures. Really anxious to see others in this line. The price is really great for that level of detail in 1/12 scale. Can't wait to get Death in hand for a closer look.

This line needs support to survive, so why would ThreeA sell Robo at the same time as all these other things? Give him a week on his own so people don't blow their budgets on TK's n Rex's.

I too worry that the interest generated by the Star Wars derivative line could be just another nail in the 2000AD coffin!

I mean we have realistic expectations on Robo-Hunter since he's a more obscure character

The problems arise when the well known characters don't sell well. Death sales were slow, but with retail support we were able to hit the numbers we needed and we're at work right now on more Dark Judges

Hammerstein is proving to be a tougher nut to crack, the sculpt is off, so we're really cracking on it to make him look just right, did another pass last night which'll get it in the right direction. Should make it right on time for 3rd quarter

Sam looked FANTASTIC in the toy expo pictures (as did the Dark version of Death).

Sorry to hear about Death being a slow sell, its an amazing looking figure. You guys are 2 for 2 on the relaunch range - both looking just brilliant so you definately have bought goodwill and time in getting Hammerstein just right.

Any idea of a shipping window for Death?
