Re: TRANSFORMERS GENERATION ONE
HK have canceled the G1 line due to the lack of sales on Optimus. Focus on TF's is solely on the film series characters

Re: TRANSFORMERS GENERATION ONE
I know it is SUPER unlikely but I still want a DOTM Soundwave to go with Screamer and Megatron

Re: TRANSFORMERS GENERATION ONE
I wonder if poor sales were affected by having exclusive retailers. If memory serves only Prime was Bambaland while Magnus I think Thinkgeek and Nemesis BBTS. Personally I would have loved a Nemesis but dealing with BBTS or Thinkgeek gets SUPER expensive, plus as a 3AA member not being able to actually USE my discount and free shipping means buying from USA based companies is just not worth it. Same with Spider-man. I love my black suit SM set but I wanted the red and blue as well but again, not worth spending the USD with no 3AA discount, 30-40 for shipping and customs fee. It adds up significantly. I 100% know that was my rationale for not buying 2 Primes (Prime and Nemesis)
This may have nothing to do with the poor sales but again, I kinda wonder if it played in to it.
Side note: I LOVE my Prime, especially after I fixed him.

Re: TRANSFORMERS GENERATION ONE
Couldn't afford any Prime and they are stunning figures. Saw them in person last year at US Venture and they're outstanding.
I have funds for Megatron, for my first jump into G1,... would love to see a decision to at least produce him. Give others a chance to jump in and also give those who got a Prime to have a G1 villain in their lineup.
That Megatron proto was absolutely tops. Next level looking figure.

Re: TRANSFORMERS GENERATION ONE
Prime was offered at Bamba and Retail, had maximum exposure with early review samples made while the preorders were still open and had great support from Hasbro in regards to advertising on their social media. For whatever reason, it didn't gel with TF fans and we needed to sell several thousand to break even. Which in reality should have been completely doable because the movie line TFs sell in big numbers. Not being able to sell in Japan also hurt us completely (TakaraTomy are very strict with the G1 license).
Ultra Magnus and Nemesis, because they both had specific edition sizes, helped completely get us closer to breaking even. But again, HK are only looking at the bottom line. If the most well known TF in history can't sell enough to break even and the villains historically sell less than the heroes, there's no chance for them to continue the line with that sorta risk of losing a lot of money.

Thanks for the added background Gregory. The business side of the beast always has to be fed, just the way it is and always will be.
For those of you who have a Prime,... what an amazing figure - Congrats on that!

You can get Ultra Magnus for a steal on ThinkGeek. Put that Megatron money to good use.
Re: TRANSFORMERS GENERATION ONE
Well, still glad I participated in buying Prime, even after the damage issue. Sad to see the line fail

Re: TRANSFORMERS GENERATION ONE
So here is a ironic shift for the G1 line. Knowing that 3A is going to stick to the theatrical versions of the transformers, the new Bumblebee Movie previous a G1 transformer in it! Ha Ha. So maybe the G1 line may not be dead if the transformers movies completely move the the G1 line? How ironic. New hope.
Re: TRANSFORMERS GENERATION ONE
As long as that megatron get to production at some point, they can call the line whatever they want. Please make it Ash!

Re: TRANSFORMERS GENERATION ONE
I bet Ash's G1 line was cancelled partially so Hasbro could sell their own G1 Transformers again, since they're featured in the Bublebee movie.

Wasn't sure about the Bumblebee flick, but legit Shockwave, Soundwave, and Ravage? Sold.
Re: TRANSFORMERS GENERATION ONE
Dead thread but I still want that G1 Megatron... Hell, if the prototype ever was for sale, I'd want it...

Unfortunately the Megatron prototype had a mishap in a shipping incident and was almost completely destroyed
