Hmmm, sounds like a case of paint lock. One of a few suggestions if you have a blow-dryer try to concentrate the heat on or near that joint on the soft vinyl and gently try to free that joint (one thing to take note of is not to over-do the heat because you might end up with the ball-joint sinking issue that these squares are known for). Sometimes I've just tried to wiggle it or try pushing on the joint at the closest point to the joint itself and then it usually works and frees itself.

The flap on the side does open, but they can be a be a little tough to get open. I would recommend not applying too much pressure on the corners of the flap though, you wouldn't want the pegs holding the flap in place to break. I kind of worked my fingernail under the edge at the middle of the flap and with a bit of bit of work got it to open. Not sure if anyone has snapped the pegs trying to open it but I tend to err on the side of caution just in case.

Thanks I managed to losen the ball joint. Did not apply heat, I gently hit the whole leg-assembly a couple times and it worked out.
