Robbie would need a production assistant to get him coffee. I will do that.

Can you also bring us some donuts? We need to keep up our energy if we're going to take some awesome photos.

Re: JAPAN VENTURE - WITH SMILES ON OUR LIPS
As per Gimbat's latest news item, original art from the With Smiles on Our Lips show is now available on the site. How cool is that?
Bill Wray's piece Dark Detroit is a personal favorite...

Martin, which pieces you haven't seen at the show? Hope you traveled home safe and it was a pleasure to meet you again.

Re: JAPAN VENTURE - WITH SMILES ON OUR LIPS
Some incredible work from Phil. The prices aren't really surprising. Especially given the size and significance of the works.
Uneven Steven is a Goad classic.
Interpreter might be the closest I could ever get to the Nostromo painting Phil did for Penguin. If I had the space for another piece, I would want that one badly. Easily in my top of my favorite images from him.
The Life Wants to Live based image is the most recently painted of these. titled Foundation, it remains one of the most disturbing paintings I've ever seen. I got to see that even before the LWtL show, and I remember showing it to Sarah. We were both a bit wigged out by it. There are surely those who will look and only see a hole in the ground, and think why paint that.
And there in lies some of the power of the image. The way it is technically constructed and the way it is presented. Put that on your wall and try not to find the presence (and depending on one's disposition), the menace of it. Like much of that body of work, one of the threads running throughout it is, "what is it?" And "What am I looking at?" Just enough information for it to work, and just enough missing for one to translate and mentally unpack over time. I find that piece especially frightening. And maybe somehow that is a reflection of me? Happy Halloween!

Re: JAPAN VENTURE - WITH SMILES ON OUR LIPS
I'm not as familiar with her work as I am with the others so I couldn't tell you the time frame. It consists basically of the majority of the pieces made for the show itself, plus a number of works featuring some pop culture portraits, some kaiju themed pieces, and various animals.
The books are intended as an introduction of each artist for show-goers that may not have ever heard of them before. They're pretty limited print-run wise.
Worth having for a good sized hardcover Visell book for the coffee table.
