threeA legions AK Zomb anthology book for charity

For what it's worth, I've copied Dienstag's initial post over from the old board. Don't know if Kurt's aware of the forum move and it really doesn't look like there's much happening with this project but at least we have a record of it...

Hello everyone, I wanted to share some great news with you all- I emailed an idea I had for a threeA legion charity effort, and Ash approved the idea, and so I'm sharing the idea here with all of you to gauge interest in this.

I had an idea fund-raising for charity idea that would involve creating a zombie jam-album type of book done by the threeA boardies that have an artistic bent using the zombs in the Adventure Kartel universe.

We have a lot of talented boardies and I think it’d be a great thing to do, getting the boardies together to create a jam-type of book using the zombs as the common characters, and assigning each boardie some themes from the “100 theme challenge” that artists and writers have used for inspiration over the years. Ash has graciously volunteered to design the book to have the "AK feel" and is supportive of this effort.

(The 100 themes are, for reference listed at the bottom of this post)

If we have enough boardies on board, the ideal would be a rotating challenge of 1-3 themes per boardie, and then compile all the pages into an album that would be designed by Ash and then printed via print-on-demand and sold online. When the albums are sold, then all profits from the sales would go to a charity of Ash's choice.

This would be a good thing for the boardies to challenge themselves to draw and create something that would be part of a shared universe and a good opportunity for the threeA legion to raise and donate proceeds to a deserving charity. Being Deaf, I can appreciate getting support from organizations when I was a child, and make it a point to give back now when I can. There is power in numbers, and this is a great opportunity for the threeA legions to step outside of their “collector” zone for a short while.

I'll take responsibility for setting this up with the boardies, managing files, and getting Ash's approvals/feedback, and then getting it ready for print-on-demand, and doing the sales accounting and setting up the donation to a charity of Ash's choice with all attention and credit being given to threeA/the threeA legion.

Is this for real? Can we use the AK zombs in this book?!
Yes, Ash is giving us permission to use the AK zombs for this book only.
How many pages will the book be?
The book will be 100 pages long, but formatted to 50 pages, printed front and back with 1 page per theme.
How will this book be produced?
This book will be designed by Ash and produced for Print-on-demand and all proceeds will go to charity.


Technical details:

Can I create color images?
Color images are OK. You must use the RGB color mode when working and saving your image.
What is the image resolution needed for images?
Images must be saved at a minimum of 300dpi
What size will the book be when it is published?
The book will be perfect bound softcover comic book sized, with the final page size will be 6.625 x 10.25 in. / 16.82 x 26 cm with a bleed size of 6.87 x 10.50 in. / 17.46 x 26.67 cm (the excess will be trimmed to give a full page of color with no white margins.
What format should I use when saving my images?
All images should be saved in the .TIFF file format


Other important details:

• Since we'll be using the AK zombs, are there any restrictions you want to place on the use of the zombs and AK universe? (i.e. no using other characters from AK, etc.?)
Ash's response: "no restrictions, only restriction, the artist cannot use the image representing AK commercially or in any other way part from this book. that has to be put across. As in they cant make a shirt or poster or own comic with wjhat is essentially an AK Zomb etc"
Can I draw just anything and have it included in the book?
Ash said that he wants your best stuff, and it should be a "cool image"
How should I approach this?
You can approach this as a comic page, using panels to tell a story, or a single image with text, or no text. The important thing is to use the AK zomb and the theme assigned to that page. It should be succesful in communicating that theme with the imagery used.
Readability is a must. Type and lettering should be easy to read. Some thought should be put into composition, guiding the viewer across the page, and drawing attention to the important elements in the page.


Submission guidelines

Please post a message below this one with your choice of themes. Each boardie is allowed a maximum of 3 themes until a minimum of 20 boardies are onboard, after that number has been met, then boardies already on the list can select more themes until all 100 are taken.
I will contact boardies with a email address where the digital files can be sent to once I see your post with the themes you have selected
please don't steal images. don't use images that you have not created yourself for this book.

The deadline to finish the art and get it to me is February 13, 2013 Tuesday, February 26

I'm excited for this opportunity for the legion to create artwork for something in the AK universe, approved by Ash, and with proceeds going to charity! This is our opportunity to show the world what the legion can do!

So what happened to this project? I think I may show off my submissions for this now defunct idea...laughable

Oh I'm sure someone will chip in with some lie about this being ready to go any day now. Personally I've given up on this, sorry I wasted my time.

This is my last attempt at trying to check in with this project. Any word if this will ever happen?

I wish I could say it's good to see some interest in this. I propose that if nothing happens this time that it gets forgotten about and never mentioned again. Having said that I'm 100% behind you. Best of luck.

What an absolutely appalling debacle and total lack of responsibility towards all those that, in good faith, who provided artwork for this project!

Agreed!

Someone needs to create an account on some open, user friendly image hosting site and give the username and password to all the artist contributors.
Get a full page of all the art uploaded together in one place so we can all call it done and say "Nice work" to all involved.

I'm all for that Wooly, at one time it was suggested to put the art up here but that was shot down because it was "almost ready". At one stage others were volunteering to help with the finishing and printing but Kurt said he'd get it done then nothing. It is good to see some interest here though, I hope it comes to something.

Perhaps as a salvage operation that would be a good idea.

Posting all the artwork on here that is and/or on some FB page or elsewhere. It would very much help to show that the artwork contributions had some value!
