1/12 Action Portable Star Wars Prototype Discussion
Isn't he a little short to be a Stormtrooper?
So who's getting one of these?

The prototype from a few years back when Ash brought them to SDCC

The helmet does look great. Reminds me of the Revoltech version. Hopefully this AP is as dynamically posable as the Revo.

Do we need this? With Revoltech already doing a 1/12 + Bandai have started a 1/12 Starwars action figure model kit line. There is already a lot of 1/12 Starwars stuff out there. Would rather see 3a original stuff.

I know you guys think I'm insane or a troll but I am being perfectly truthful here. I've had figures from all the major japanese figure lines and I can say without a doubt that they are all overpriced junk that pales in comparison to 3A/ThreeZero. I mean have you seen the Bandai Chogokin Hulkbuster? They want like $350 for it! IT'S NOT EVEN 12 INCHES TALL AND BARELY HAS ANY METAL CONTENT FOR A SO CALLED DIECAST FIGURE! They're scamming you guys seriously! CHOGOKIN TOYS WAS A MISTAKE!
NOTHING can pose as dynamically as Revoltech! If all you care about is "muh articulation" then Revoltech is the way to go! I HATE REVOLTECH FIGURES THEY LOOK UGLY AND HAVE WEIRD JOINTS AND THE PLASTIC IS LESS GOOD THAN OTHER FIGURES AND THEY HAVE MORE THAN DOUBLED THE PRICE IN THE LAST FEW YEARS REVOLTECH USED TO BE A BUDGET LINE WITH POOR CONSTRUCTION NOW ITS PRICED EVEN MORE BUT THEY HAVENT IMPROVED THEM AT ALL THEY STILL USE THE SAME CHEAPO BRITTLE PLASTIC AND THE SAME PAINTS THAT CAUSE THE PLASTIC TO DEGRADE AND GAH DON'T BUY THEM CHIVO I HAVE THE DARTH VADER FROM THIS LINE AND IT BROKE PLEASE DON'T BUY THEM MAN REVOLTECHS ARE BAD!Chivo wrote:The helmet does look great. Yes, we need this! Those figures are complete garbage and I hate them and I regret buying them and I want 3A to deliver us from this evil! I WAS SO HAPPY TO GET MY BANDAI TAMASHII NATIONS DARTH VADER AND STORMTROOPERS I EVEN DELUDED MYSELF INTO THINKING THEY LOOKED GOOD. It's called post purchase rationalization or something it's related to stockholm syndrome. Anyway they look really ugly especially the helmets and vader's cape and the display stand is a cheap looking piece of junk. I cancelled my orders for Luke and Darth Maul I recommend you do not buy japanese figures ever.carryingthebag@yahoo.co.u wrote:Do we need this? The Revoltechs are insanely poseable. In fact, they can pose in ways that no one wearing the old SW armor ever could in real life. That stuff is limiting, and has it's idiosyncrasies. So I see them as 2 different toys. 2 different purposes. To me, what I've seen of the 3A 1:12 figs is astoundingly screen accurate for such a small toy. Fabric clothing where it should be. Plastics where it should be. Stormies have fabric undersuits, and plastic armor that replicates the movies as close as one could possibly hope. With the 3A AP body under there, you can eek out a lot of the things you could if you were wearing the armor. It's not going to do the splits, or crazy action poses.
That's where the Revoltech stuff seems to excel. Those big ball joints in place of realistic working joints, allow them to pose in all kinds of comicbooky & animated super stylish poses. Most of which would exceed what almost anyone could hope to cop in such armor in actuality.
So the question is, do you want to pose your stuff to look dynamic in ways that are neato to see but unrealistic, or do you like the idea of an exceedingly good screen accurate toy that makes up for Han Solo's giant/pea sized melon in the 1st Gen Hasboro release? That's what I loved about the protos.
The thing that interests me is IF any of this comes to be, will it actually be screen accurate toys, or will they be AW styled toys (like Marvel line)? I'm still curious to see where this goes because of that. I would happily gobble up the proto Stormy and Fett figs shown so far. I'm not sure what I expect to see from the human figs, and like the Marvel line, for me the treatment of the organic items like flesh and hair is what will really distinguish whether the whole line is great, or whether it ends up only the man-made shapes like robots and armor.
If we get true AW stylized figs of the old characters I'll probably be thrilled. Hoping Threepio doesn't rock helmet shoulders, but I'm sure the bots will all be awesome. I want Han with long duckfeet, and swagger. I want a Momaw Nadon run through the AW style grinder. I can totally see Zomb-esque craigs and crevices in his skind sculpt. That's the shit that gets me excited. The possibilities!

These have more soul and would have soft goods. Just look at the fett that somebody won. It isn't about pose wars with figuarts (the better of the japanese ones, revoltech look weird)

I agree with ESeffinga. Revoltech, Figuarts, and Medicom/Mafex they have there respective places in the 1/12 SW figure realm - not to say i would not purchase these prototypes if they were to be released, but if AW were to release a full wave of SW related/licensed pieces then they should be tweaked out with exaggerated features, grimey'd the f**k out - chalked-full of that Ashley Wood's flavor!
