With Smiles On Our Lips
I for one am so glad ( and grateful) to see these in the stores. Never actually saw anyone talk about them during or after the show at all. But any day with new 3 A books in the store is a good one, IMO.
Thought it would be good for us to have a place to discuss them as more people have the opportunity to pick them up.

The books are great artist intro starter kits. You get a good breadth of work from each artist.

gregory wrote:Pretty good mix of drawings and paintings from the last 2 years-ish.
Some concept art, ad art, t-shirt art, wwr paintings, machine witch paintings, etc
A lot of those big ink pieces that were at the show and accompanying detail shots too
And for Amanda's
gregory wrote:I'm not as familiar with her work as I am with the others so I couldn't tell you the time frame. It consists basically of the majority of the pieces made for the show itself, plus a number of works featuring some pop culture portraits, some kaiju themed pieces, and various animals.
The books are intended as an introduction of each artist for show-goers that may not have ever heard of them before. They're pretty limited print-run wise.
Worth having for a good sized hardcover Visell book for the coffee table.

I went through books at Japan and they are incredible.
Content, printing quality and overall feel...just amazing!
As Gregory pointed out, they are intended as starter kits, but I think that people who are already acquainted with these artists works, will appreciate them as well.

Basically like bigger format versions of what the IDW Sparrow books were like?

I don't have those unfortunately and never flipped through them, so I can't comment.
Or you are referring to the idea and not content?

Re: With Smiles On Our Lips
Both. The Sparrow books were also AW attempting to introduce some of his favorite artists to wider audiences (different content but same mixed bag of work). Come to think of it, Swallow was an anthology version of that same idea.

The Phil Hale book is powerfully intimidating. Like, am I strong enough to go through it? Thinking it's a must buy.
I haven't the deep versing that most have on here for some of the artist names that get referenced often but he's one I'd always wanted to have some more exposure to. Good on 3A for these going up.

Yes, they're all hardcovers.
No word on the photography book if/when that'll go up.

I was going to say, they looked like hardcovers in the show photos. Good to know.

Was there a video on one/some of these books? I thought I remember seeing a flip through video on one of these books. Could be wrong, though.

Got mine in yesterday arrived in Omaha! Solid book but some repeat if you own a lot of his books. Hoping popbot 9 is all original content and story with the book.
Re: With Smiles On Our Lips

Re: With Smiles On Our Lips
Can not decide wether I should jump on the Ash book. How much of the content is repeated, what ratio is the new unpublished content?
At this price I can not justify doubling up.

As nice as the venture book is, if you aren't won over by it, give his Zawa-zawa book a try. Much cheaper, a bit smaller, still has repeated work, but a great book nonetheless.
