Re: Underverse Discussion
Hopefully it doesn't start with a limited Nom de Plume like, 50 pcs drop, to say hello.
Followed by a 75 pcs drop to say hi, because I am pretty sure things changed a lot in the past 11 years and it will sell out in less than 5 seconds.

Or it's only 25, to say "Get Emo, bitches! This is how it's gonna be!"

Re: Underverse Discussion
Yeah, that would suck. I mean with retail prices of figures getting higher and higher, all we need is the flippers to get a hold of them and jack up the prices even more to price us average buyers out. The days of me chasing after grails is pretty much over. I look at figures that I would have chased down years ago for exorbitant prices and today I take a hard thoughtful pause to anything over $300.

To be honest, I never chased after those limited editions on the aftermarket.
If I eventually missed out, I missed out.
I did hunt down a handful of regular available releases I wasn't able to obtain because of lack of funds, or, in hindsight wrong priorities.
And some retail exclusives which are a bit harder to get in Europe, since everything sucks for European retailers if it comes to getting designer toys for a reasonable price in the hands of fans.
(Still would love to find a BBICN Exclusive Dark Underverse Baphonaut, everything else, it is just noise.)
Can't wait to see what Underverse will bring us.
And how it will be, compared to the the company we loved for what it essentially was: great toys, (relative) low prices, awesome community and crazy sales.
Bring back the emo. (but not too much, we're mostly 10 years older now)

Whatever ends up being done with this brand, an upgrade in quality control would be welcome.

Re: Underverse Discussion
I think much emo will come. I’ve been putting away my shippers today (boxing them inside the huge mongrol shipper) and the one thing that stands out is how low the batch numbers get post 2015/6.
I know it’s not scientific but when they are consistently low you have to think very few people were buying 3A by the end. There’s no reason UV sales will be higher. Sadly.

I think it's because there's no marketing, and it's very hard to buy these figures.
Such a small window to purchase, after very little notification. Then a years wait for release.
I can tell you there's been a lot of stuff I liked that I had no idea existed till a year after its released. And I follow 3A

You couldn't be lollygagging when following 3A. You had to be proactive.

Re: Underverse Discussion
Too sophisticated for me. I don't know, kind of reminds me of abstract expressionism mixed in with futurist sculpture and painting. Not my cup of tea. That sitting nude does look nice though.

Re: Underverse Discussion
I doubt it. Probably 1/6 scale if made on preorders. You have to consider price and well although Ash has his followers beyond 3A, are those followers doling out the cash? But If they are big, they'll probably be limited and expensive. Okay, so I'm being flippy-floppy.

Re: Underverse Discussion
I'm just happy to see the Underverse materializing. I'm not 100% certain these will be the inaugural "figure" out the gate. . . but curious to see more. I'd get more and more interested if Ash's brush strokes actually made it on to the piece; I'm thinking that imagery might be used in a blurry kinda placeholder fashion for what we're seeing.
Curiouser and curiouser.

Re: Underverse Discussion
To me they look like they are white blank white, (maybe prototypes?) that Ash has superimposed a portion of some of his very sophisticated abstract paintwork over the top of in Photoshop. You can especially see it in the ways that straight lines cary over from one plane to the next, like the straight lines in this image.
I think this is a double edge sword.
For the folks that either just plain old don't like what Ash is doing here, the final product likely isn't going to win them over.
But if someone falls in love with this look, be ready, because the final product is going to be different. If they hydro-wrap some of Ash's art onto the vinyl form, it'll certainly look closest to what is shown here, but then there is no hand painting or anything to the final piece. It will be essentially a printed vinyl sculpt.
If they hand paint them to try and replicate this look... I'd be very nervous of that approach. It's historically been hard enough for someone to copy something as simply abstract as one of the old paint masters from the old 3A toy line and accurately get the wear and tear looking right. Something as sophisticated as Ash's abstract layering and color choices... nah.
If anyone's ever seen someone try and replicate a Pollock before, it's easy to make something that looks like dripped paint at a glance. It's entirely different when you see a real one and a knockoff in the room together. The real deal has had so much consideration and experience and intuition behind it. The knockoff is generally, here's this color, then the next, then the next. The interweaving of color and shapes is gone.
So I am very curious to see these become a real thing. But it does give me pause that they look like computer mockups, rather than showing people an actual product. I know 3A did similar things when adding decals to bots that hadn't been produced yet, but I feel like this is a whole step further than that. So it makes me feel cautious.
I am interested to see the product, whatever it is. I like seeing people reach creatively. That's awesome.

Re: Underverse Discussion
^Right. And again, to kinda echo some of what was said, these may not even have the colors we're seeing once we see the final piece. Like this is just a teaser of the "figure" in general and the Ash paint imagery is just there to obscure and give some interest; like blurries used in past ads. Who knows...
I feel like the Underverse already has full license of vaguery and obscurity.
The thing that has me puzzled is the dunny head,..... like... huh?
All will be revealed. :-D

Re: Underverse Discussion
What came to mind when he posted the set were the "1960s playboy figurines" but abstract versions of Ash's designs, google it to see what I mean.
Re: Underverse Discussion
The three of them all together create a really lovely composition.
Really looking forward to seeing more :)

Re: Underverse Discussion
UU, all I get are images of playboy ladies and the odd Bo and Luke from the Dukes of Hazzard, but that was on Bing. Did it on Google and I see what you're saying.
E, my initial thoughts were that these would be made of various colored resins and somehow marbleized together, but hydro wrapping makes much more sense.
Definitely would like to see how these turn out as the final product.
